Nongsa's area of northern Batam mangroves are adapted to life in harsh coastal conditions. The marvel of Mangrove forests contain a complex salt filtration and complex root system to cope with salt water immersion and wave carried by the seasonal wind. Mangroves are adapted to the low oxygen (anoxic) conditions of waterlogged mud which also sustain the coastal ecosystem.
